Hello!
My wife and I own an '84 Model 1 14.2, but have yet to christen it in nearby Joe Pool Lake, near Grand Prairie. We are looking forward to learning to sail, and wish you all the best!

Hi there....
I'm not yet a 14.2 owner, but am looking....
I'm in Dallas....
I sailed these boats a little in the past and found them to be a lot of fun.....I seem to be having difficulty finding a "newer" used one near by....so am considering new.....If and when I finally do get one it would be great to organize some 14.2 events!!!

I live in Austin and I am fairly new at sailing as well. Understand your concern as I also would welcome a sailing buddy. FYI, Lake Travis and the surrounding area has been suffering from low water levels. If you are in the area feel free to e-mail me ahead of time.

There are two mid 80's Capri 14.2's on Lake Sweetwater (one is mine) - about five miles southeast of Sweetwater, Texas. Both are in the local "Yacht Club", which has had some difficulty getting going again after the lake refilled in 2007 after going dry in the 2001 to 2007 drought.

There is supposed to be a mixed class fun regatta on Saturday of the upcoming Labor Day weekend. I don't have the details at the moment but they will be eventually posted on the news and or sailing page at the lake website (which I run).

By the way, Lake Sweetwater is a nice little lake for sailing. The boat ramp is huge and well maintained with plenty of parking and turn around room. There is usually some wind each day even in the dog days of summer - that's why the wind turbines are here.

The bait shop at the landing has seven RV sites with water and electricity that are right on the water. You can pull your 14.2 up onto the "beach" within a few yards of your campsite. Tenting is also allowed on the RV sites.

For more info on the lake and the sailing club you can visit www.lakesweetwater.com.

P.S. I am spending much of this summer at my cabin at Lake Sweetwater. If you plan a sailing trip to Lake Sweetwater, drop me an email and perhaps we can set up a convoy day. MajorH@satx.rr.com

Another Austin 14.2

I'm in Buda (suburban south austin)... but I'm thinking of selling my Capri 14.2. I'm unemployed and frankly the family isn't as crazy about sailing as I am.... AND the water level's this year!!! I just refinished the tiller, put new wheels on the trailer, and tuned up the outboard (ready for august doldrums).

Anyone checked out Lake george town? recently. I've not looked at the water level there. I used to enjoy sailing up there.

> ready for august doldrums

I must be sitting by the wrong lake. My problem at Lake Sweetwater for the first two weeks of August has been too much wind.

The average wind speed each day has been around 10 mph which would be OK if it were steady but the 15 to 25 mph gusts every five minutes, often from a different direction, require more concentration and readiness for quick reaction than I find enjoyable.

Racing in N. Texas/Oklahoma

I live in Grove, OK on Grand Lake. Would be interested in coming to Dallas to race? If anyone is interested in this, let me know. Send email to my office.

Hey there....I just brought home my new (to me) 14.2 last weekend!!! It's a 1987 model - found it in Austin.....boat is in incredible shape, better than most newer one I looked at!!
I have yet to take it out - but am excited to do so this weekend!!!
A couple things I ordered are a boomkicker and a hobie baby bob mast float...(piece of mind for my wife as we've had "one of those" experiences in the past - not pretty)
Anyway - looks like we've had quite a few responses here.....I think a race weekend/social somewhere in Texas would be a great thing...
White Rock lake in Dallas has lots of dinghy racing and neat facilities....this is a possibility?? Also, I've seen a lot of Capri's at their docks, we might just be able to drum up a pretty good showing??
If enough people interested, I can contact the club and inquire about helping with such an event??? Maybe this fall?

I know this is an old thread, but it might be fun to meet up somewhere to chase each other around a lake. It seems there are a fair amount of 14.2's in the north Texas area.

Racing

I regret that I am selling my 14.2, and have purchased a Capri 18. Wish we could have done this last year, or earlier in the summer.
